Friends and family of a construction worker who was shot and killed on the job in Bridgeport came out Thursday to pay respects.
Jose Araujo was shot near Chopsey Hill Road and Pond Street.
People who came in droves Thursday evening to the house of Araujo's brother said the victim was truly loved.
"I often referred to him as the gentle giant," said friend John Gomes. "He was always smiling, had strong presence. Wherever he was at, people knew he was around. Most importantly, he was a guy who was willing to help others."
A makeshift memorial was set up at the construction site, including his helmet, vest, flowers and candles.
Araujo leaves behind a 5-year-old son.
