A fund has been created to help the family of a Bridgeport woman who died from injuries sustained in a fire earlier this week.
Marisol Estrada, 43, was found unconscious by firefighters who were responding to a fire at her Washington Avenue apartment. She died Monday. Her 2-year-old daughter, Allianna Ramon, remains in critical condition at Shriners Hospital in Boston.
The collection for the family was started at Shiloh Baptist Church. Checks were presented to church leaders by dozens of police officers and cadets from the Bridgeport Police Academy, who took up a collection among themselves. City officials say they have also received about $2,000 in donations.
The fund will help pay for Estrada's funeral. It will also help Allianna's father, Jose Ramon, travel back and forth to Boston. Ramon, the building superintendent, was injured in the fire.
