Gov. Ned Lamont joined the governors of New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Massachusetts to announce a joint task force to help the states reopen following the coronavirus pandemic.
The task force will include a medical expert, economic expert and chief of staff from each state. Lamont says that by sharing information and resources and planning together, the northeastern states can complement each other's recovery efforts instead of getting in each others' way.
He says rushing back to work has been proven to be counterproductive for countries like Singapore and Japan. Lamont says as coronavirus affects one northeast state, it affects them all.
State Republicans are less enthusiastic about the collaborative approach, with Republican Senate Leader Len Fasano saying in part, "I was expecting to hear details of what Gov. Lamont thinks are the prudent and necessary steps for Connecticut to take to get our residents back to work. Instead, we learned of a plan to form a plan, through the creation of more bureaucratic bodies including a 21 person multi-state administration system and a state organization that is still not yet formed."
The governor says the members of Connecticut's advisory board for reopening the economy will be announced in the next several days.
