Gov. Dannel Malloy today announced upgraded Metro-North services that will impact southwestern Connecticut commuters.

Gov. Malloy says that brand new cars have begun operating on Metro-North's New Canaan line that will make it more reliable for passengers. He says that the addition of the new cars is especially important to the New Canaan branch line because the ridership is expected to increase about 44 percent over the next 15 years.

Malloy told News 12 that about 2,500 passengers are riding the trains Monday through Friday and he expects that number to grow in the future.

Commuters in New Canaan say they hope the announcement means better service, saying trains often don't run properly.

Malloy says that the additional cars will affect departures during the morning commute as well as departures from Grand Central in the evening.
