Gov. Dannel Malloy announced Wednesday that the state would help Brookfield recover from a powerful storm that knocked down trees and power lines and left a mess around town.
About 20 other municipalities sent crews to help, he said.
"It's a tremendous amount of damage," Malloy said.
And school officials shut down the district the second straight day as the cleanup continued.
Surveillance video provided by the Brookfield Police Department shows the height of the storm whipping through the area around 4:50 p.m. Tuesday.
The National Weather Service said a macroburst with wind speeds of about 100 mph blasted the town, causing significant damage. A macroburst can produce tornado-like damage, officials said.
