Governor Jodi Rell (R-CT) announced a new car tax relief proposal Wednesday after Connecticut seniors objected to the original proposal.
Rell?s original plan would have abolished the $350 property tax credit on cars, while also cutting the property tax credit on income tax. Senior citizens who do not drive argued they would not benefit from the change. The governor?s new plan would allow people 65 and older to receive both the property tax credit and the car tax cut.
Critics argue it would be more fair to Connecticut residents if car and real estate tax relief were included in the state budget. The new plan will cost the state an estimated $15 million.
