This morning the Greenwich community gathered outside of St. Mary's Church on Greenwich Avenue to pay their final respects to former Police Chief Peter Robbins.
Chief Robbins, whose father was also a police officer, joined the force in July 1970 and was made chief 27 years later. Even though Robbins retired from the department 10 years ago, he was still an active part of the community and up until 2008 was chief of security at Greenwich Hospital.
Family and friends of the beloved chief spoke of his personality but also described him as a cop's cop.
Chief Robbins died in his sleep on Monday.
