Spring sports are expected to start in March, but Greenwich High School still doesn't have all of its fields open following a contamination.
Last summer, school officials shut down all seven fields after traces of toxic chemicals were found in the soil during construction on a nearby lot.
A Town of Greenwich spokesperson says three of the fields were reopened last fall, and they are now awaiting approval from state and federal agencies to reopen the rest.
Matt Wellington, a former student at Greenwich High School, says the field closure is frustrating and affects many.
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has released a statement saying that it is working with other agencies to assess test results and take steps necessary to address the contamination as soon as possible.
