A new battle is brewing in Hartford claiming the state's hold on new magnet and charter schools violates the constitution.
A group of parents, including one from Bridgeport, claims thousands of low-income and minority students are forced to attend low-performing public schools.
The lawsuit names Gov. Dannel Malloy, the state education commissioner and other officials as defendants.
The parents say the state's moratorium on new magnet schools has only deepened what is one of the largest achievement gaps in the country.
The state Education Department denies that claim, saying Connecticut has a high quality of public education proven by high graduation rates and rising test scores.
