The Bridgeport Rescue Mission is asking for the public's help in assisting people in need this Thanksgiving.
Organizers say the seventh annual Great Thanksgiving Project at Webster Bank Arena will help 3,000 families have a holiday to remember this year.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal visited the organization and made a personal appeal for turkeys and gently used coats.
Blumenthal says the public has never failed to make the event a success.
"I'm hoping that the people of Connecticut will respond with their typical generosity and warmth to people who need this kind of help," Blumenthal says.
The Great Thanksgiving Project will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
