A Parkchester man is in the hospital after police say he was shot in the stomach Thursday afternoon on Taylor Avenue.
A woman who claims her ex-boyfriend was the gunman, and asked not to be identified for safety reasons, says the violence unfolded during what was supposed to be a routine exchange involving her children.
She says a teenage friend of her nephew approached to say hello, which allegedly sparked jealousy from her ex-boyfriend.
“We were exchanging the child and our friend came up to me and said 'Hi,' which is my nephew’s friend—he’s only 16,” she said. “He got jealous and started texting my phone that something would happen.”
Moments later, exclusive video shows a man open fire on Taylor Avenue.
The woman says her brother-in-law stepped in to protect her.
“My brother-in-law came to protect me because I was just frozen. I was stuck, scared,” she said.
Police say the victim, who she identified as 43-year-old Fernando Noyola, was shot once in the stomach. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, where he remains in serious condition and is preparing to undergo surgery. Family members say Noyola is a father of six.
Detectives shut down the two-way stretch of Taylor Avenue in Parkchester as they searched for evidence. Authorities have not confirmed whether video obtained by News 12 is part of their investigation.
The woman claims the suspected shooter is her ex-boyfriend and says he has been violent in the past. She shared video with News 12 that appears to show the same man slashing her tires and smashing her windshield months earlier.
The shooting also unfolded with a child nearby. The woman says her 3-year-old daughter was inside the car when the gunfire erupted.
“All I thought about in that moment was grabbing my child out of the car and running with her,” she said.
She also claims she has since received threatening text messages from the suspected gunman’s father.
Police say the suspect ran from the scene and remains at large.
