People in Milford and surrounding communities are remembering a man hit and killed by a car.
Edward Patrick Austin, 49, directed many programs for kids and adults in his career.
Milford police say Austin was running north along the Boston Post Road Friday afternoon and was hit by a car when he went to cross the street.
Police say the driver of that car stayed at the scene and has been cooperative in their investigation.
Austin spent 22 years as a recreation supervisor for the Milford Recreation Department.
"Great guy. It's just really sad what happened," said Dave Reno, from Bethany.
Reno worked alongside Austin as an umpire for ASA softball.
"He helped the community. He helped, you know, people off work, they would play softball or basketball or kids events. But to be remembered is somebody that was always part of the community and always willing to help," said Reno.
"Everybody in the community is mourning his loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family as well as his colleagues," said Milford Police Officer Brianna MacDonald.
Police are not saying who is at fault as they continue their investigation.
"It does seem there's nothing that leads us to believe that the operator went through a red light or anything. And we're unsure exactly if the pedestrian was in the crosswalk or not," said McDonald.
Friends say Austin will be remembered at many upcoming games.
"We'll do a memory, a moment of silence for Pat at each game next week. We'll honor him next week," said Reno.
Calling hours are Sunday afternoon at Cody White Funeral Home in Milford. Austin will be buried on Monday.
