Connecticut health officials are urging unvaccinated residents to get the measles vaccination because an outbreak in New York City has reached the state.

The state Health Department says an adult from New Haven County contracted measles after visiting Brooklyn in the last week of March.

Officials say the case is related to the outbreak of more than 250 measles cases in four predominantly Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods.

New York City recently ordered mandatory vaccinations for people living in the affected areas, fearing the outbreak could turn into an epidemic when thousands of families gather to celebrate Passover next week.
