The holiday season is around the corner and thieves are on the pry for package deliveries.
Fairfield resident Sarah Ferrizz shared footage of the moment her Ring camera caught a young man in a black ski mask and black clothing stealing two packages off her front porch.
"I realized the package had been delivered and I thought my husband had taken it in and he said he didn't so I went to go look at the Ring camera and that's what I saw," recalled Ferrizz, "I was surprised and angry!"
Unfortunately, with the holidays around the corner - it's peak season for thieves to target package deliveries.
Here are reminders and tips to prevent package theft:
- Reduce the time packages are outside: Try to schedule deliveries for when you'll be home or have a neighbor pick up the package.
- Use a lock box: It helps keep packages secure.
- Use alternative delivery locations: Many companies, including Amazon, FedEx, UPS and USPS, offer alternative delivery locations.
- Order deliveries with a signature required: It ensures the package is delivered to the correct person.
- Use delivery alerts
- If you have a store location nearby, consider picking up your order in-store instead of having it shipped to your door.
- Hide packages: use a planter, or furniture.
