Sirens blared outside Greenwich Hospital on Thursday as close to 40 police cars, firetrucks and ambulances drove by to show their gratitude toward the health care heroes treating patients infected with COVID-19.
Doctors and nurses stood outside the hospital – waving, cheering and saluting their fellow front-line workers.
“I looked across at some of my peers and I saw tears in their eyes, and those tears just bring up a lot of emotions,” says Diane Kelly, the Greenwich Hospital chief operating officer.
"We're thinking about them while they're thinking about us," says Sgt. Ted Latlak, of the Greenwich Police Department.
Kelly says the coronavirus has stressed and worried staff, but expressions of support go a long way in boosting their spirits.
"Having your community care about what you're doing, it makes a difference," she said.
