High school football players gathered Monday in New Canaan to rally against the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, which canceled the fall sports season in the state.
Hundreds of players and coaches took the field with their masks on to show their commitment to finding a way to safely play tackle football during the pandemic.
The CIAC announced Friday it was suspending the season after the governing body failed to convince the state Department of Public Health to approve 11-on-11 games.
State representative Tom O'Dea says like any activities this fall, football will come with some risks, but he thinks managing that risk should be and individual decision.
The CIAC says it will work with players and coaches to provide "light to moderate risk football activities."
