A Stratford veteran received free home repairs and maintenace Saturday from a nonprofit organization to thank him for his service during the Vietnam War.
House of Heroes, in partnership with the Lockheed Martin owned Sikorsky Aircraft, surprised 71-year-old Glenn Chitwood with home repairs.
Dozens of volunteers helped with shed repairs, painting railings, and more.
Chitwood served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969 and has been living with several health problems that make home maintenance difficult.
Organizers say the repairs have made the home more accessible, safe and clean.
A ceremony was held where Chitwood was honored with a flag and Sikorsky Aircraft donated $20,000 to House of Heroes.
Organizers with House of Heroes say they plan to use the money for future projects.
The nonprofit has done a total of 110 house repairs.
