UI customers will see an increase in their bills starting this weekend.
PURA approved a total revenue requirement of $450 million for the rate year, meaning about $10 more per month for customers using 750 killowatt hours.
"It's really hard, but there's nothing we can really do," says Aurea Desouza, of Bridgeport.
State Sen. Ryan Fazio says years of bad energy policy in Connecticut have compounded the cost of electricity.
"How much more can we take?" Fazio says. "People are hurting in Connecticut."
"This is disappointing news for Connecticut families," Attorney General William Tong said in a statement. "We must redouble our efforts to address the crisis of affordability in our state."
United Illuminating declined to comment on News 12's story.
The increase goes into effect this Saturday.
