A rally was held to protect the future of the Reservoir Community Farm in Bridgeport Saturday.
Organizers say the lease agreement is up for the one-and-a-half-acre plot of land and they don't want to accept the new lease terms which include a plan to share the property with a newly built library.
A group against the lease called "Bridgeport Green Space Coalition" formed this week when 14 organizations came together to help keep the farm intact.
Over 600 people have signed a petition against the new lease terms.
Organizers say the pollution created by construction of a library would contaminate the food grown at the farm.
Those who oppose the lease terms say building the library would be the start of a gentrification process that would eventually eliminate the farm that they call "a vital source of freshly-grown food and a generator of community engagement."
A meeting is set for Tuesday to review the lease one last time before the City Council votes March 21.
