Police and firefighters spent early Sunday morning responding to nearly a dozen car accidents on I-95.

Officials say that the cold temperatures created icy conditions on bridges along I-95, which caused cars to spin out of control along I-95 from Milford to Westport.

As police and firefighters assisted drivers and their passengers, the state Department of Transportation sanded the affected bridges. Officials are reminding drivers that bridges are more vulnerable to icy conditions than normal roads.

?When it does start to get cold, the bridges are gonna freeze a lot faster than normal roads,? says Lawrence Conklin, assistant chief of the Westport Fire Department.

Fire officials say that those who were taken to area hospitals suffered minor injuries.
