Investigation underway in Bridgeport after girl walking to school claims man tried to abduct her
A girl in Bridgeport is claiming a man tried to abduct her while she was walking to school, according to police.
Around a dozen officers were on scene at the intersection of Kent and Horace streets around 9:30 a.m.
According to police, a 911 call came in that a girl attending a school in the neighborhood told an adult man tried to abduct her.
Investigators interviewed the girl and are still trying to piece together exactly what happened.
They say she was not harmed, and they "cannot state positively whether an attempted abduction occurred at all."
People who live in the area say regardless, it's important that police take each and every claim seriously.
"Scary, sad, and angry,” says Anthony Pitt, of Bridgeport. “I mean I have a niece and she's three, she'll be four in August, and if something like that happened to her, I don't know what I would do."
Police say they're looking for any relevant surveillance video that may exist.
Whether or not the claim was credible, police will still investigate "out of an abundance of caution."
