ShopRite stores in the Garden State run a “Jersey Proud” program every summer to help those in need. It is the annual “Help Bag Hunger” event.
In Wallington, police officers, firefighters and council members were waiting at the cash register to help bag groceries.
There's a large jar at checkout for shoppers to donate. Buying certain items around the store also triggers a donation.
ShopRite has donated about $3 million every year to fight food insecurity in New Jersey communities since the program started in 1999.
