A Fairfield woman who was hit by a person on a bicycle in Central Park has died.
Police say Jill Tarlov, 59, was walking in Central Park near 63rd Street and West Drive Thursday when the cyclist hit her. Police say no charges have been filed against the cyclist.
Tarlov had been volunteering at Classical Studies Academy in Bridgeport for the past seven years. The school's principal, Helen Giles, says she had been active in planning a new playground at the school. When the playground is completed, organizers say they would like to dedicate it to Tarlov.
Tarlov's husband, Mike Wittman, released a statement saying, "Even though she has been taken from us far too soon, her spirit will live on forever. On behalf of our family, I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and request privacy during the difficult times ahead."
Rabbi James Prosnit says Tarlov was a congregant at Congregation B'nai Israel in Bridgeport and that she was passionate about her work with the school. He says the funeral for Tarlov will be held there Wednesday at 11 a.m.
