J.M. Wright Technical High School officially reopened Wednesday after being shut down five years ago.

Gov. Dannel Malloy was on hand to cut the ribbon and reopen the school on Bridge Street in Stamford. The school closed in 2009 due to budget problems and low enrollment. Local lawmakers say the school was reopened because of the need for a trade school in Stamford.

School officials say they began from scratch to renovate it. About $90 million was spent to renovate the school, including brand new trade areas and shops inside.

A freshman class of 145 began class Wednesday. The school offers 10 trade programs.
