Officials say six K-9s from the Fairfield, Westport, Norwalk and New Milford police departments graduated outside police headquarters Tuesday in Fairfield.
They say one of the dogs now certified is K-9 Jake, of the Fairfield Police Department, who was named after a Marine that recently lost his battle with PTSD.
Each of the police dogs underwent 400 hours of training.
"The handlers put a ton of time into them, and they're extremely dedicated," says Superior K-9 Services Lead Trainer Frank Reda.  "We train in every environment, every terrain, everywhere we could possibly go, so we're proven that when you make that 911 call that the dogs and the team are prepared."
Officials say three of the K-9s are certified in explosive detection, and the other three are certified in narcotics detection.
