There are more than 5,200 cases of the coronavirus in Connecticut, with more of half of them in Fairfield County, officials say.

As of Saturday, there have been 165 deaths in the state.

As more cases roll in, state and local leaders are calling on Congress to pass a fourth emergency relief package. Sen. Richard Blumenthal says he wants more cash going into the hands of workers, families and small businesses struggling during the pandemic.

Previous aid packages provided $2.3 trillion. Sen. Blumenthal was joined Saturday by Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim in requesting more cash for education.

"The students of Bridgeport are dependent on distance learning, so they need broadband connectivity and that's what the fourth relief package should include,” he said.

The senator says the first cash relief checks for individuals and families should go out over the next two to three weeks.
