In the wake of the Virginia Tech massacre, two state Senators are pushing for changes in how students at colleges in the Bronx and the rest of the city would be notified of emergencies.State Sen. Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn) and state Sen. Toby Ann Stavisky (D-Queens) are demanding a meeting with the leaders of New York City's colleges and universities, claiming the results of a meeting could save lives. Some of the senators' suggestions include public address systems inside all classrooms and dorm rooms, emergency alert systems and installing emergency phones in every classroom and dorm room. The New York Post reports three SUNY schools upstate had already implemented a mass text messaging alert system before the Virginia Tech shootings. Sen. Adams cautions, though, that it is important to make sure safety systems don't exclude students without cell phones.Thirty-two students and faculty members were shot and killed Monday by Cho Seung-Hui before he turned the gun on himself. The shooting rampage was the deadliest in the history of the United States.
