Several Democratic lawmakers were in Bridgeport on Friday to tout a cap in the amount some car owners pay in car taxes.

The lawmakers gathered at WE Transportation, which transports kids to Bridgeport public schools. The Democrats highlighted the bus business because it stands to save a lot of money from the tax cap with its hundreds of buses.

WE Transportation officials believe that under the new tax cap law, they will save about $200,000 next year.

The car tax cap only affects drivers in cities like Bridgeport, New Haven, and Hartford, where car taxes are very high.

The law is also limited to property taxes on vehicles, not homes, but Senate Democrats say they're sending more state money to local communities in hopes they'll volunteer to stop raising real estate taxes.
