The Darien Library has created parking spaces designated for hybrid cars only.

As part of a green initiative, the parking spots make up some of the closer spots to the building.

Some people who are not hybrid car owners are so outraged that they have said that they are deliberately parking in the spots. Despite some public dispute over the idea, the library is not going back on its decision.

There is no penalty for those without hybrid cars who park in the spaces, but library officials hope that helping the environment will be enough of a reason for some to change to hybrids.
