Locals headed out Sunday afternoon for Washington, D.C. to watch the inauguration of Barack Obama and take part in the days of celebration.
"It takes me back, it takes me back to when I was in Washington with Dr. King," says Mary Lee, who was a student in Selma during the civil rights movement in the 1960s.
"We finally have made a step forward," Lee says.
At Sacred Heart University, 100 students woke up early Sunday to board two chartered buses headed for the steps of the Capitol.
Some from Connecticut have tickets to the inauguration, some have tickets to the balls and galas and others are just winging it waiting to see how close they can get.
