A former television reporter has written a book based on her experience, but with a twist.
Elise Hart-Kipness says she was inspired to write about what she knows for her debut novel.
"I was a sports reporter, I worked in the tri-state area. I would go into the hidden tunnels of MSG where the locker rooms are when no one else was there. I covered the Knicks and Nets," says Kipness, a Stamford resident.
The main character of "Lights Out" is a sports reporter who gets involved in a world of murder and betrayal. Kipness says the book is meant to keep the audience on edge.
During a recent book signing at Italian Center of Stamford, Kipness said she wrote about crime and trauma as way to process several traumatic news events she covered early in her career. That includes murder trials and the TWA Flight 800 crash.
Kipness says "Lights Out" is for readers who love thrillers and suspense.
"The main character is going through a lot of family drama. She has teenage kids who are going through all their stuff. Page six is gossiping about her. I love the fast-paced quick read in a day-or-two type book and that's what I was going for," says Kipness.
Author T.M. Dunn also introduced her book at the book signing.
The Stamford-based author's new book, "Her Father's Daughter," is a thriller with twists and turns based on a serial killer on the loose, a family full of secrets and a suspenseful police investigation.
Both books can be purchased as audio books or in book stores and online.
