The man accused of negligent homicide in connection to a boating accident last year was in a Danbury courthouse Tuesday for a pretrial hearing.
Police say the propeller on Gary Morrone’s pontoon boat fatally struck Wanda Tirado, of Waterbury, while on Candlewood Lake last June.
Morrone, 66, of Oakville, was charged with negligent homicide, reckless boating and failure to report a boating accident. He pleaded not guilty and was freed on bond.
A
GoFundMe page for Tirado says she was a math and science teacher at St. Mary School in Waterbury. She left behind two daughters.
Her family was at the courthouse for the hearing.
"It’s been tough for us. Tough for the two little girls that she left behind,” says Manuel Tirado, Wanda's father.
News 12 reached out to Morrone's attorney David Grudberg for comment, but did not hear back.
Morrone will be back in court on May 22.
