A Norwalk man is free on bail after police say they found two assault rifles in his home.

Police initially arrived at Jeffrey Vigil's residence on Old Suagatuck Road after receiving a complaint that he pushed his wife. Authorities say the officers searched the home and found eight guns, including two weapons that are classified as assault rifles under Connecticut laws.

"These weapons are dangerous in that they're rifle caliber, so they have a heavier and faster bullet," Norwalk Police Lt. Paul Resnick says. "They have a large capacity magazine so the person loading can fire 20 or 30 rounds of ammunition."

Vigil, 36, says that he is a gun collector and believed that he had the proper permits for the firearms, but police say that the Connecticut laws are different than those the former Florida resident is accustomed to.

Vigil is free on $25,000 bond and the case will be continued on May 6.
