A New Canaan man is biking across the country to raise money for a local nonprofit.
Mark Thorsheim is a board member of Career Resources, Inc. which helps individuals get back into the workforce.
"When you come home from jail and stuff like that, people don't wanna give you a second chance," Bridgeport's Isaiah Bendolph says. "This program gave me chances and helped point me in the right direction."
Thorsheim's 4,000-mile trek to the West Coast began Tuesday at Norwalk's Calf Pasture Beach.
"Biking brings back the joy of our youth," Thorsheim says. "Carpe Diem! It's going to take a lot of effort, and I'm exhilarated, and hopefully I'll be feeling this way in about 60 days"
Thorsheim says he was inspired by the memory of his late brother to make the trip. He's hoping to raise $50,000 by the time he reaches Oregon in September.
