Bridgeport police say a man is facing an attempted murder charge after he nearly stabbed another man to death during a carjacking.
Police say they were looking for 26-year-old Andrew Ferguson for another crime when he committed the carjacking. Ferguson was wanted in an armed robbery at a Bridgeport gas station on March 10.
According to police, the victim saw Ferguson walking on Reservoir Avenue on March 11 and offered to give him a ride. The two men are believed to have been childhood friends.
Officials say Ferguson asked the victim to pull over on Woodlawn Avenue Extension.
They say Ferguson asked his friend for money and when the man would not give him any, Ferguson attacked him. The victim managed to roll out of the car and Ferguson drove off.
"According to the victim, Mr. Ferguson then said, 'Please forgive me,' pushed the man's head down towards his lap and started to stab him in the back of the head and neck," says Capt. Brian Fitzgerald, of the Bridgeport Police Department.
Police say they found the car near Ferguson's home.
Ferguson was charged Friday with attempted murder, assault and robbery for the carjacking.
