A man was killed in a fire at a home on East Rutland Road in Milford, officials say.

The fire broke out Tuesday after 7 p.m.

Officials say they were met with heavy fire conditions at the home.

Officials say because of the extent of the fire, and concern the house could collapse, crews had to get out of the home and fight the fire from the outside.

When the home was safe, officials say they searched inside for survivors and discovered a man had died inside. 

Officials have not released the identity of the man .
