A new FedEx Ground facility will be coming to Stratford, according to Mayor John Harkins.
The 225,000-square-foot facility will be located in the industrial area near Woodend Road. FedEx reportedly eyed the area in part due to its close proximity to I-95 and the Merritt Parkway.
State Rep. Terry Backer thinks the plan will be highly beneficial for Stratford, which he says is in need of more well-paying jobs. "I'm encouraged that we have an opportunity for some people to get to work," he says.
Officials say the new location will work in tandem with an existing FedEx facility in Wallingford, and some of its 150 workers will be relocated to Stratford. They also say FedEx was offered a tax incentive to build in Stratford.
Construction of the facility is expected to be completed by the end of next summer.
