The Stratford Town Council is expected to vote on forming a Charter Revision Commission Jan. 14 after residents criticized the mayor?s powers.

More than 3,000 residents have signed a petition saying the mayor has too much power and they want the town charter rewritten. Town Council Chairman Michael Henrick maintains that the majority of the council wants clarification within the charter in relation to the town?s ethics committee.

Henrick says the council wants to know whether Mayor James Miron can own a business and who is in charge if and when the mayor is out of town or sick.

While Henrick maintains a revision commission is not about limiting mayoral power, Miron says efforts to rewrite the charter are personal. Miron says the efforts are being led by a group still angry with a town referendum to change the form of town government in 2003.

Miron is not confirming whether he will veto the resolution Monday night. Henrick says he?s confident he?ll have enough votes to override any veto.
