According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 36-year-old Renee Hoberman, of Plainview, used social media messaging apps to share photos and videos of alleged child porn.
Court documents say Hoberman, who also goes by the first name, Rina, works as a child therapist at LifeStance Health in Melville. The location provides mental health care to those from the infant stage to 17 years old.
Officials say a Facebook profile, appearing to be Hoberman, says she also works as a counselor at South Oaks Hospital in Amityville. Northwell says she hasn't worked there since 2021.
Her profile also says she is a social worker at the Vincent Smith School in Port Washington, a private school specializing in dyslexia and other non-behavioral learning disorders.
The Vincent Smith School statement on this matter: Renee Hoberman is not employed at our school. She was only here for approximately eight days as a temporary worker in April of 2024. Ultimately, she was not retained and we have not had subsequent contact or knowledge about her since. Our student safety is always of utmost importance to us.
A spokesperson for LifeStance released the following statement:
"It has been brought to our attention that Renee Hoberman, a part-time provider at the Melville, New York office was arrested on October 23, 2024, on one charge of distribution of child pornography. We take this matter extremely seriously and have immediately terminated the provider and are working with patients to transfer care to other providers. We have not received any information from authorities indicating that any patients have been impacted by the alleged activity. We intend to cooperate fully with the investigation."
Federal officials say these allegations went on from June until as recent as last week.
Anyone with information about sexual exploitation by the defendant is asked to call the Homeland Security Investigations tip line: 1-877-4-HSI-TIP.
