A windsurfer was rescued by the Milford Fire Department Friday night.
Officials say they received a call from a child that her father was in distress off the shore of Morningside Drive just after 8:30 p.m.
The child said her mother went out on a paddle board to search for her husband but had not returned.
Firefighters were able to contact the woman on her cellphone, but she refused to turn around and come back to shore without her husband.
A fire department rescue vessel was launched to find the man, who was found a mile offshore of Morningside Drive.
He was loaded onto the vessel and taken back to land. The wife made it back to shore on her own.
The windsurfer was evaluated but refused medical attention.
It's unclear what caused the man to experience distress.
