Milford Mayor James Richetelli needs residents' help updating the Code Red Alert system database, which he says can can contact 60,000 residents in just an hour and provide them with useful information.
However, Milford Fire Department Captain Christopher Zak says correct phone numbers are necessary for the system to work.
"People have different numbers,? says Zak. ?Most people use their cell phone numbers, and a lot of people have gone to Internet-based phones, so that database we have is an older database. So we want to try and update it.?
The map-based Code Red Alert program can target specific areas and contact residents in those areas. It has been in place since August and was first used to warn residents of flooding during Tropical Storm Hannah.
