A Monroe high school student was honored Tuesday for being a heroic babysitter to two young children.
Back in April, Olivia Cross was babysitting on Sheep Meadow Drive when she says she saw flames shooting out of the back of the home. She quickly went upstairs, got the kids out of bed, went to a neighbor's house and called 911.
"I knew the fire evacuation plan we had at my house so I just applied it to their house," says Cross.
Cross didn't think her quick thinking was a big deal -- it was just doing what she had to do.
Cross was honored at the Stepney Volunteer Fire Department for staying cool under pressure and keeping the kids safe.
