The mother of a Norwalk man who was taken into police custody today is defending her son after he allegedly attacked a woman in a public park. Authorities arrested Emanuel Montanez, 24, after receiving a call that he was acting erratically and tearing off his clothes in Lockwood Matthews Park. When police arrived, they say they found a woman bleeding from her face. The suspect's mother says he has bipolar disorder, but stopped taking his medication several years ago. She also said his recent behavioral changes prompted him to shave his head and eyebrows. Montanez has been charged with breach of peace. Police say more charges are pending and will likely include assault. To see extended coverage of the Norwalk park attack, click on iO Extra on Channel 612.
