Police say two people were killed in a motorcycle accident near the intersection of Bridgeport Avenue and Schoolhouse Road.
The accident happened Saturday at about 8:30 p.m. Witnesses say the motorcycle went through a light heading west on Bridgeport Avenue. It wasn't able to slow down in time to avoid crashing head-on into a car pulling into a Wendy's parking lot.
The impact of the collision sent the female passenger of the motorcycle into the air. She hit the ground almost 40 feet away. She was taken to a local hospital where she later died. Police say the driver of the motorcycle died at the scene. The driver of the car escaped with only minor injuries.
Cathy Rebello, who witnessed the accident, says both people on the motorcycle weren't wearing helmets. She says doing so could have possibly made a difference.
"Connecticut has to do something about getting helmets for passengers, the drivers are in control of the motorcycle, but the passenger is not," she says.
