A motorcyclist is in critical condition after a crash with an SUV in Stamford, police say,
The crash happened on West Main Street near Wilson Street around 7 p.m. Sunday.
Police say the driver of the SUV and the motorcycle rider had been traveling in opposite directions when the two collided.
Police say both the driver of the SUV and the motorcycle rider had green lights. They say the driver of the SUV told them he did not see the motorcycle as he was making a left-hand turn.
The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with life-threatening internal injuries.
He remains in critical condition in the ICU.
"He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but the helmet did come off during the crash," Stamford Police Sgt. Jeffrey Booth says.
Police were on scene for several hours collecting evidence.
They say they are still trying to identify the motorcycle rider.
"He did have a wallet with him. The wallet itself was given to either EMS or Fire. And at this point, they may or may not have given it to someone at the hospital," Booth says.
The driver of the SUV stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
