The MTA says it is making substantial increases to service for two subway lines.
The agency is spending $2.5 million to add more round-trip service the 2 and 5 lines after seeing a 13.6 percent jump in the amount of riders using the 2 line, specifically the East 180th Street station.
"If they were to add the round trip, it would be really helpful for me and I'd get to work on time," says subway rider Michelle Jean Philipe.
The MTA says it chose the 2 line because it shares many stops with the 5 line in the Bronx and Brooklyn. When work is being done on the 5 line, riders can use the 2 line with more ease since it would be the only service for northern Bronx neighborhoods like Williamsbridge and Baychester.
Saturday 2 line service will increase a total of 31 round trips between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. The line's service on Sundays will increase a total of 18 round trips between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Weekday evening 7 line service will increase two round trips between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The MTA is also adding five additional round trips for those using the 2 line during peak and evening hours this June.
