Nassau police say a 55-year-old man was killed during a series of accidents Saturday morning on the Long Island Expressway in Plainview.
It happened at 7:14 a.m. at Exit 46.
Detectives say a Mazda pick-up truck driven by the 55-year-old man was traveling eastbound and struck a Honda Pilot driven by a 29-year-old man.
The Pilot stopped in the HOV lane and the Mazda came to a stop on the left lane of the LIE.
The victim exited his vehicle when a Rav4 driven by a 47-year-old man struck the Mazda and caused it to hit the victim.
Investigators then say a Subaru Outback driven by a 27-year-old man tried to avoid the vehicles on the left lane by switching over to the HOV lane where it was struck by a Chevy Suburban driven by a 69-year-old man.
The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to detectives.
The driver of the Outback was also taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
Police say the driver the Suburban suffered chest pains while its two other occupants suffered minor injuries.
The drivers of the Rav4 and the Outback, who were uninjured, remained at scene.
