Darien residents came together Thursday night to fight signs of hate after swastikas were found at two schools.
The meeting, held at the Darien High School library, was run by the National Conference for Community and Justice. Their mission is to promote inclusion and acceptance with education.
Darien Superintendent Dr. Alan Addley called it a "community conversation for action."
A student found a swastika drawn on a laptop at the high school last month, according to Dr. Addley. Two swastikas were also found at Middlesex Middle School.
School officials alerted parents and students.
"Clearly acts of bigotry, hatred, anti-Semitism have no place in Darien public schools or the community at large," Dr. Addley said.
He added the meeting was about taking actions to ensure schools are maintained to be respectful and welcoming for children.
"It's important to have inclusive schools that celebrate diversity and are supported by strong community values of the same," he said.
Parents, students, and town officials attended.
