Nature hugs Nutmeggers from every corner of the state.
Devil's Den Preserve in Weston has more than 18 acres of land and 20 hiking trails of all levels.
With only a few more months to enjoy the trails in warmer temperatures, the Nature Conservancy is sharing tips to ensure a fun hiking experience on its trails.
"Think about your route in advance, think about how long you want to be there, these basic considerations can go a long way," said Ben Croll, preserve visitor safety and engagement specialist.
Some other tips include:
  • Pick a trail ahead of time and understand the route
  • Know when sunset is
  • Check the weather
  • Always bring water
  • If hiking in a group, make sure everyone who goes in also comes out
"Sometimes people have different abilities and some folks may want to drop out or go back. So make sure everyone knows where they're going when they're going back and how to get there and that they're going to be alright." explained Croll.
The preserve does not allow pets. Fishing and camping are prohibited.
It's open 365 days a year from sunrise to sunset
