October is National Fire Prevention Month, and one local volunteer fire department is celebrating a century of service.
For the past 100 years, members of the Trumbull Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, Inc. have stayed cool under pressure.
“It’s very important to help your community," Chief Richard Gregory says. "It's neighbors helping neighbors."
The department recently held its annual open house event with live firefighting demos for the community.
“We’re always promoting fire safety every time we do something in the community," Chief Gregory says. "It’s very rewarding to hear the children actually have the answers before the adults."
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, the department says it’s very important to have working smoke detectors, working carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers in your home.
